The Valley of Galveston, founded in 1867, is the oldest Scottish Rite body in the State of Texas.  We are the home to the Mother Consistory of Texas, where the advanced degrees of Freemasonry began in our great state.

Visit our Calendar for dates and events.

ABOUT US  It is the mission of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, SJ, to improve its members and enhance the communities in which they live by teaching and emulating the principles of Brotherly Love, Tolerance, Charity, and Truth while actively embracing high social, moral, and spiritual values.

MEMBERSHIP  While there is no Masonic degree more important than that of Master Mason, there is a long tradition -- almost as old as Freemasonry -- of "high degrees" that expand upon and elaborate the teachings and lessons of the first three degrees.

CALENDAR Our valley is very active, from committees, to stated meetings, reunions, banquets, feasts, and charity functions. There is always something take part in. Please visit our calendar for all upcoming events and functions from the Galveston Valley of the Scottish Rite.

EDUCATION The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite has often been referred to as the college of Freemasonry. Scottish Rite masons are encouraged to continue their education on aspects of Freemasonry throughout their lives. Visit our educational portal to find out more.

COMMITTEES Our membership committees are the heart and soul of our valley! Our committees dedicate countless hours and personal time to execute the necessary functions of the valley's life and work, without them we would not exist.

OUR BUILDING  The Galveston Scottish Rite Cathedral is breathtaking, built in 1929 in an Art-Deco style by the notable Texas architect Alfred C. Finn, our building is home to a 360+ seat vaudeville-era theater as well as the famed Egyptian Room.

CHARITY Charity and philanthropy is a primary mission of our valley! We support the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Scottish Rite Dormitory, Scottish Rite ROTC / JROTC Programs, a number of historical foundations, an almoners fund  and many other charitable organizations.

LIBRARY  Our research library is home to one of the most impressive collections of books on Freemasonry and related subjects imaginable. In addition to our books we also have thousands of periodicals, pamphlets, historical artefacts, and other items of interest.
